Charme, Art and Uniqueness 

Built in 1902 in the so-called Ring-street style, originally our Vienna hotel was the palace of an industrial tycoon in the Austrian-Hungarian monarchy, where he used the palace as a showroom for his products. Over the years, factory halls were built into the court of our hotel, which have since been reconstructed into luxurious lofts.

The house is interesting in terms of architectural history, since it was the first building in Vienna to be built with reinforced concrete ceilings and subsequently underwent multiple incarnations before Otto E. Wiesenthal rebuilt the house in 1991. The Altstadt Vienna originally was comprised of 24 rooms and suites.

Yet, Mr. Wiesenthal dreamed of having his own hotel which could house his huge collection of paintings. During the last ten years the house has been enlarged with apartments. Today, our exquisite boutique hotel provides a meeting place for artists, musicians and travelers seeking a daring alternative to the typical hotel that possesses atmosphere entirely its own.

The Altstadt Vienna hotel is situated in the middle of the art district Spittelberg, just behind the Museums Quartier. This makes the hotel an ideal starting point for walks into the city center, a visit to one of the famous Viennese museums or a shopping tour on the nearby Mariahilfer Straße.
